FALCONS OFF TO A FLYER

On Sunday 6th September the under 10 team became the first team to ever represent FC Newlands in a league competition.

This was a much anticipated day and the club officials cant thank the parents and sponsor enough for the support they have given us.

The day was to be a joyful one with excellent individual and team skills on show. The first match proved to be very eventful in front of goal, with the Stonnall Juniors Goal keeper producing some astonishing stops. The deadlock was finally broken by Harry Inston, following some fantastic interchanging play, Tyler Day produced a lovely ball into Harry Inston who with his back to goal swivelled and placed a fantastic strike into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Stonnall played some attractive football but the work from the back three of Willam, Luke, Will and Henry was really impressive. On the occasions that there may have been an opportunity Ashton was in impeccable form between the Falcons goal reading the game and snuffing out any danger. A great team performance.

The second match against Rostance Edwards was equally as competitive providing an opportunity for the team to show their battling characteristics, The game was tight and man of the day Henry again showed some great leadership skills on that backline whilst also producing some excellent forward runs. The tireless runs of Dylan and Tyler always kept the opposition on their toes and provided a great engine to turn defence into attack in a heart beat. The game was won by a fine margin with Brandon Lewis grabbing the only goal of the game after he struck the ball cleanly from inside the penalty box, following an excellently waited cross by William Harris. The keeper managed to get a hand to it but the power was enough to take it into the back of the net.

Overall the day was really successful with two brilliant team goals, some great play from the full backs linking up play and defending tirelessly. The engine in the middle of the park was firing and the creativity of the forwards was a pleasure to watch. We know we are in for a really tough season after watching some fantastic teams playing today but there are some exciting weekends ahead.
